Rainier Valley Food Bank

Marketing and Communications Specialist

November 2021 - Present

As the Marketing and Communications Specialist for Rainier Valley Food Bank, I am responsible for creating strategy and deploying all marketing content for the organization. On any given day you might find me snapping photos of our distribution, filming our latest home delivery run, creating print collateral, strategizing about our next campaign, building out our social media content calendar, or running our website!

The Rainier Valley Food Bank Brand

About the Brand

Historically, Rainier Valley Food Bank (RVFB) has been the smallest food bank in Seattle, working out of a 1,200 sq ft facility, this food bank serves more than 25% of food bank visits in Seattle. A trusted resource, RVFB serves a majority BIPOC community, helping to dismantle systemic racism and food insecurity.

My Role & Strategy

During my tenure, I have been tasked with helping to propel RVFB into the next iteration of its branding, working on restructuring its social media presence, rebuilding its website to better serve the needs of its demographic, and offering comprehensive strategy.

 Social Media

Largely donor-facing, our social media seeks to keep our community engaged and aware of what’s happening at the food bank. We make a point to highlight other organizations in our area, showing solidarity for those we partner with, and those who continue to invest in our mission.

 Website

Our previous website had served our organization since 2012 with little change. The site no longer best served the needs of our clients or donors. Upon joining the team, I took on the task of rebuilding our website, creating a design that propels our user forward, offer our clients better access, and decrease barriers.

Giving Big with GiveBig

We love it each May when GiveBig comes around! This two-day giving event demonstrates the generosity of our community as individuals empower their favorite nonprofit organizations with donations. We are thrilled and grateful that so many people chose to support RVFB over the last few weeks.

A Boost for Our Backpack Program

It has been an incredible year for Rainier Valley Food Bank, filled with fruitful partnerships, new connections, and growing programs. Amongst it all, we recognize that our organization would not be the same without the continuous support of our community. With the turmoil surrounding the school schedules since 2020 we are appreciative of the continued support of our Backpack Program.
